I
write a “lite” version of romantic suspense. Romantic suspense is not
like normal romance, where the romantic relationship between characters
is central to the story. Instead, the romance is balanced with the
suspense elements for a sort of hybrid between the two genres. My
stories also include a lot of action/adventure elements - one reviewer
even compared one of my books to Indiana Jones! High praise, indeed.
Is there sex in your books?
Yes.
Some readers find it hot, others find it mild, and some even find it
amusing, so you’ll have to judge for yourself. One thing you won’t find
is a plethora of euphemisms - I do use graphic terms and frank language.
The sex scenes that I include always have a purpose, normally to
explore the relationship between the hero and heroine, and to either
complicate life, or signify an emotional shift.
Did you get your idea for Fantasy Ranch from [insert gentleman’s club/resort name here]?
No
- my Fantasy Ranch is completely fictional right down to the location,
characters and business model. As far as I know, nothing like it exists
in real life. My books and I are not affiliated in any way with any
business with “Fantasy Ranch” in the name (not that it would necessarily
be a bad thing).
Where did you get the idea for Fantasy Ranch then?
My
characters gave it to me. I was at the bar one night, and two people
(strangers) caught my eye. A woman dressed in western attire, one foot
hooked on the bar’s footrest, and a man dressed in biker gear playing
pool. They weren’t together, but the thought of such apparent opposites
navigating a romantic relationship intrigued me. I never use real people
in my stories, so I created characters based on the premise, and made
my heroine a serving wench to add another layer of drama. The most
important question I had to answer before I could start writing was, how
do such completely different people meet, and break down appearance
barriers enough to even talk to each other?
That’s when Fantasy Ranch was conceived. It all sort of spiraled out of control from there...
How many books will there be?
I’ll
write until I run out of characters, or until readers stop reading. At
the moment, I have four completely plotted out (if we include The
Biker’s Wench), and at least a couple more in mind that require more
brainstorming.
Can we request a certain character’s story?
Of
course! Email me with the character you think needs his/her own story.
No promises, but I’ll certainly see what I can come up with.
Do you write other books?
Lots
of ‘em. Visit JamieDeBree.com for the scoop on my standalone romantic
suspense titles. If you look hard enough, you might even find a pen name
or two lying around for the other genres I write in.
